March 2025 – A Most Significant Birthday

Changi Airport decided to wish me an early Happy Birthday this month.

It is indeed a milestone and I’ll be talking at length about the experience of living over the past ten years. Right now it’s just good to still be here after saying goodbye to two brothers, a sister, a mother, and a father.

My last significant birthday I was pretty much alone. Only my friend Sid recognized it as a significant birthday achievement. Otherwise, I was divorced, my children were otherwise occupied (still under 18) and nearly all of my in-laws didn’t even bother sending me Facebook message.

I had never even been out of the country, except that one time with the USMC.

I never thought that ten years later I’d be married again. I had pretty much resigned myself to being single for the rest of my life. At the time I was okay with my decision.

Now, I’ve been to Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Vietnam. I cannot imagine not having my wife Nghia at my side. Life is what happens while you are making other plans.

Changi Airport is my favorite airport in the world. I’ve been there twice. I plan to tick a few more off my list in the next decade. Thanks, Changi.

ps. do you know what birthday this will be for me?
